USC GOC

Breif

USC GOC (Grace on Campus) is a campus ministry from Grace Community Church at Sun Valley. Engaging USC students and members of the community through weekly large group bible studies and fellowship activities.

What I Did

I was involved in the leadership team as a communications staff member. I was documenting fellowship events through photos and videos and posting them on social platforms.

Photos: I took pictures using my Sony a6500 camera and incorporated analog 35mm film. The purpose of using analog photos is to help Instagram posts stand out from other posts and capture the user's attention. Another reason is to capture life's moments in their raw form, evoking enjoyment and nostalgia when reviewing the photos.

Videos: I made a promotional short video using my Sony a6500, capturing campus life at USC and a glimpse of USC GOC moments. I used a DJI RONIN RS3 Pro gimbal to capture stabilized footage for cleaner shots. I compiled and edited my videos using Adobe Premiere Pro.

Social Media Posts: I imported my photos into Canva to create graphic elements for Instagram posts. I set up a template to achieve a uniform aesthetic for the semester posting feed. I also helped redesign the GOC logo through Canva.

Results

All the media efforts help USC GOC establish a larger media presence. The promotional video achieved 5.2K views on Instagram. Many visitors learned about USC GOC through Instagram posts.

Breif

InformaTV is a Spanish news program at USC Annenberg Media. Produced and run by students, showcasing news relating to the Hispanic world and Latin America.

What I Did

Director: I was the show's director for InformaTV in Studio C at USC Annenberg Media. through the newsroom system Ross Inception and Overdrive. I initially had no directing experience when I started. Still, through curiosity and an eagerness to learn by putting together and directing a show on the day of, I was able to help direct multiple shows throughout my tenure at USC Annenberg. I learned and helped code the show's rundown through the Inception platform. Learning the code for different components such as graphics, cameras, and mics. On the day of the show, I helped communicate with the show's personnel, such as the floor manager, anchors, teleprompter, producer, and camera operator. I worked with the producer (Noelle Villaseñor, Heli Ruiz) to add the appropriate codes to the show automation rundown system days before the show. I also contributed by pitching story ideas to add to the show. I had to learn almost all the components of directing a show on my own and then teach other students interested in directing.

Results

We were able to produce several shows in the semester. All of which are done in Spanish.

Jefferson Park.LA

Breif

Jefferson Park.LA is a local streetwear brand created by Stephanie Mendoza that celebrates the Jefferson Community and South Central Los Angeles. Made "With Love, From the heart of the city."

What I Did

This media project is one of my favorite projects I got to work on, as this brand celebrated the heritage and culture of the neighborhood where I was born and raised, Jefferson Park. Through this media project, I had the chance to use my photography skills to showcase life in Jefferson Park and incorporate the neighborhood scenery into the apparel in the photo. These photos were taken to promote the seasonal clothing drop.

Photo: I used my Sony a6500 camera with a 35mm f/1.4 lens. Some of the photos were taken on a 35mm film camera using the Nikon F with a f/2.8 24mm lens and Kodak Portra 400 film. The reason for this is that I wanted to achieve two things: first, to give the promotional photos a way to "stand out" in the sea of digital photos shown on Instagram. Second, I wanted to capture the "rawness" of Jefferson Park, which reflects the community's hustle and perseverance.

Results

The pictures helped create new business from the seasonal clothing drop.

CHIRP Los Angeles

Breif

CHIRP (Comprehensive Housing Information and Resources For People Living with HIV/AIDS) Los Angeles is a non-profit agency that delivers resources and services for People living with HIV/AIDS with housing needs. One of CHIRP LA's biggest contributions to the community is sharing information about local resources, such as food banks, resource fairs, and clothing drives, through newsletters and social media posts.

What I Did

I began my contribution by finding local resources on Instagram and on other local nonprofit websites, resharing them on our Instagram page, and linking to the original posts. I then began a newsletter series called "educational resources of the week," where I choose a topic related to HIV care or housing. I composed these newsletters through Mailchimp and reshared the contents on Instagram. I made sure to use credible sources and cited them in my newsletter. I made my graphics for the newsletters through Canva so my posts can be visually appealing. I used KPIs to track the performance of my newsletter campaigns, see where people clicked most, and adjust my next newsletter article based on the KPI findings from prior campaigns. I also helped redesign the resource guides, such as the Medical and Dental and Food Bank guides, with an easier-to-follow layout and color-coded tabs that represent the guide type.

Results

The newsletters received positive reviews from our subscribers, our clients, and even social workers, who found them very helpful. The information from my newsletters gave social workers awareness of resources they can refer their clients to, instead of leaving them unsure where to go. This impact helped give both social workers and clients better hope in reaching their goals in their journey in housing or HIV care.
